Community Outreach

Tech student works with local youth

A Tech student helps tutor local Atlanta elementary students

At Georgia Tech, community outreach has always been part of our mission. Today more than ever, we are at work in the community, sharing our expertise and resources on many levels.

We're working with our neighbors to improve the lives of all Atlantans, beginning with the city's youngest residents. In 2006-07, more than 200 Tech students actively volunteered in the local community. This included nine Tech students who served as tutors at Centennial Place Elementary School, and a group of eight Tech students from the African American Student Union and National Society of Black Engineers who volunteered for the Atlanta Public Schools High School SAT Prep Program.

Our graduates go on to become some of the city's most committed, visionary leaders, and our advanced research and leading-edge technology help make Atlanta a high-tech anchor for the Southeast. This translates into a stronger economy and enhances the city's national reputation as a great place to do business.

Georgia Tech's involvement does not end at the Atlanta city limits. In communities across the state, the Enterprise Innovation Institute provides assistance to businesses and helps create jobs. Georgia Tech also has an impact nationally and globally. Tech President G. Wayne Clough was appointed by President George W. Bush to the President's Council of Advisors. Our international presence includes the Georgia Tech Lorraine campus in Metz, France; a research facility in Athlone, Ireland; and an expanding presence in Singapore.

In our home city and in many other places, Georgia Tech is using its resources to shape a better world.
