Director of Athletic Bands, Christopher Moore
Greetings Yellow Jacket Fans,
The Yellow Jacket Marching Band is celebrating the 100th year of our existence fielding the largest band to date. At over 350 strong, the band has two very exciting events planned to commemorate this occasion.
The first event will be our annual Surround Sound Concert that is scheduled for Friday, October 24, 2008. This is the night before Homecoming and will give us the opportunity to celebrate with all of the alumni who will be in town. In addition, the Symphonic Band, under the baton of Donny Allen, will debut the Kappa Kappa Psi commissioned work by renowned composer Julie Giroux. Tickets to the concert are available through the Ferst Center Box office.
The second event will be the band's debut in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade® in New York on November 27, 2008. More than 55 million television viewers and over 2.5 million fans along the parade route will experience the tradition and pageantry that Georgia Tech fans come to expect. The band has been busy "drumming up" funds to attend this event, but we are still in need of support.
Our 100th anniversary will not only showcase the band's talent but will also allow the Georgia Tech community to show its appreciation by supporting the band's rich tradition and history.
We would like to thank all of the fans for their support throughout the years and look forward to serving the Georgia Tech community for many years to come.
Sincerely,
Christopher Moore
Director of Athletic Bands
