The Georgia Tech public relations team defines, coordinates, and delivers key messages that strengthen the Institute’s mission using a variety of tools, ranging from media relations to the development and promotion of signature programs. We are here to assist with Institute-level public relations opportunities that support brand initiatives and target audiences strategic to Georgia Tech through activities including but not limited to:
- Message Development
- Assist in creating strategic and consistent messages promoting and supporting the Georgia Tech brand.
- Plan Development
- Help develop public relations strategy.
- Media Relations
- Respond to incoming media inquiries and strategically pitch Georgia Tech stories and experts to targeted trade and national publications.
- Media Training
- Direct Institute media training focusing on four levels:
- Basic: General guidelines for print interviews and how to work with the media
- Broadcast: In-studio, on-camera training that is taped and reviewed
- Crisis/Controversial: Exercises to prepare for hard-hitting questions and challenging situations
- Customized: Preparation for editorial board visits, panel discussions, press conferences, etc.
- Multimedia
- Identify appropriate multimedia components to support articles, events, etc.
- Daily News Buzz
- Compile daily news coverage for Georgia Tech, our peer institutions, as well as strategic issues. Distributed daily to all Georgia Tech faculty and staff.
- News Releases/Advisories
- Write and distribute Institute-level information regarding research, events, and other important news about Georgia Tech. News releases and advisories are distributed electronically and posted on the Georgia Tech Web site.
- Georgia Tech Web site
- Showcase strategic Georgia Tech initiatives on the homepage and through posts of podcasts, blogs, op-eds, and other appropriate sections.
- Crisis Communications
- Direct and coordinate Institute crisis communications planning and response.
- Signature Programs
- Work to identify, develop, and showcase signature programs.
- Op-eds, Letters, and By-liners
- Provide editing and placement assistance for leadership and faculty.
- Ideas/Programs
- Identify initiatives to showcase as part of Institute PR efforts such as leadership speeches, columns, collateral, etc.
- Special Events/Seminars
- Assist in the promotion of Institute-level events.
- Media Log
- Facilitate coordination with the media by providing a media log for use by all campus communicators.
- Metrics
- Assess impact of the Institute’s local and national news coverage in relationship to our peer institutions and in terms of positioning, tonality, share of coverage, and visibility.
