Academic Regalia
Georgia Tech's Customized Regalia
To participate in the Commencement ceremony, you are required to wear Georgia Tech-approved academic regalia. Caps and gowns must be purchased from the Barnes & Noble @ Georgia Tech Bookstore. Under their gowns, men are encouraged to wear dark trousers and shoes and a shirt with a collar, while women are encouraged to wear dark slacks or a skirt or dress, as well as low-heeled shoes.
PhD Regalia
All PhD candidates must obtain the customized academic regalia (i.e., tam and gown) from the Barnes & Noble @ Georgia Tech Bookstore. Your customized Georgia Tech PhD regalia is available for purchase or rental and must be ordered six weeks prior to your Commencement date. If you participate in the ceremony, your hood will be given to you as a gift from the Institute. Candidates can schedule their appointment for PhD gown orders by calling 404-894-2516. If you cannot visit the bookstore six weeks before your Commencement date or have any additional questions, please e-mail Barnes & Noble @ Georgia Tech.

PhD regalia is available for purchase at the cost of $854 before tax. Each gown and tam are fitted to each student's individual needs and are an investment you will use over your lifetime in academia. For your convenience, Barnes & Noble @ Georgia Tech offers three-, six-, and twelve-month payment plans to assist you in paying for your gown. The bookstore requests your final payment be made six weeks prior to Commencement to ensure enough time for each gown to be made and properly shipped. PhD regalia can also be rented for $166.98 before tax. This price includes the rental of the gown plus the purchase of your tam, as tams are not rented to multiple users. A three-month payment plan for rentals is also available. Please see the contacts above for further information. Those who rent regalia will receive notification that their gown and tam have arrived at the bookstore. Graduates will then need to present either a photo ID or a copy of the original receipt in order to obtain their rented regalia. All rentals must be returned within three days of the Commencement ceremony, or graduates will be obligated to pay the full price of the regalia.
Master's Regalia
All master's candidates must purchase the customized academic regalia with the Institute seal on the lapel from the Barnes & Noble @ Georgia Tech Bookstore. When there, please let the cashier know which master's degree you are receiving, as that will determine your hood color. Master's candidates may also order regalia online and have shipped directly to them. Online orders can be made at Tech Stuff by clicking on "Regalia".
Master's candidates' regalia costs $96.98 before tax and includes your customized Georgia Tech gown, cap, and hood. Students will not be permitted to wear former Georgia Tech regalia (plain black robes) at the ceremony or undergraduate gowns, as master's gowns have additional material at the base of the sleeve. Regalia can be purchased up until the week of Commencement.
Bachelor's Regalia
All undergraduates must purchase the customized academic regalia with the Institute seal on the lapel from the Barnes & Noble @ Georgia Tech Bookstore. Bachelor candidates may also order regalia online and have shipped directly to them. Online orders can be made at Tech Stuff by clicking on "Regalia".
Bachelor's regalia costs $56.98 before tax and includes your customized Georgia Tech gown and cap. Students will not be permitted to wear former Georgia Tech regalia (plain black robes) at the ceremony. Caps and gowns can be purchased up until the week of Commencement.
