Students board a Tech Trolley in Tech Square.
Georgia Tech approaches issues of sustainability in transportation through numerous channels. Research focuses on alternative fuels, fuel efficiency, transportation usage, policy and planning, and transportation infrastructure.
The Georgia Tech Office of Parking and Transportation offers environmentally responsible transportation choices for students, faculty, and staff. With programs such as Zipcar, SmartPark, MARTA, and a partnership with the Georgia Clean Air Campaign, the Georgia Tech community is encouraged to choose commute alternatives. The Institute's efforts resulted in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency selecting Georgia Tech as one of the "Best Places for Commuters." The Parking and Transportation office also maintains mass transit options on campus including a fleet of natural gas-powered buses, which carry more than 2.1 million riders across campus each year.
