Mini 500 riders from 1975!

Georgia Tech's Mini 500 race is a tradition here at Georgia Tech and has been an essential part of our homecoming events since 1969. Introduced by the Ramblin' Reck Club, this race derived from a prank fraternities used in the 1960s in which pledges were forced to transport themselves around campus on tricycles. Today, the Mini 500 race is far from being considered a punishment. It is an exciting, intense tricycle competition full of humor and fun.

Many campus organizations partake in this event. Most teams are composed of assorted fraternities, sororities, ROTC, sports clubs, and other student organizations. The race takes place around Peters Parking Deck and consists of both men's and women's divisions. Men must complete fifteen laps around Peters, while women must complete ten.

The teams can have up to seven members (four drivers and three pit crew). As the riders race, they must complete three pit stops in which the front tire is rotated, and each tire rotation and lap is counted by a designated Ramblin' Reck Club member. With a little engineering and lots of laughter, the Mini 500 Race is certainly a memorable event that all Yellow Jackets enjoy!
