Caity Jimenez
Name: Caity Jimenez
Major: Architecture
Year: Fourth year
Drum Experience: I began playing the drum set when I was around six years old. For my birthday, I had always wanted a guitar, but instead, my dad, who is also a drummer, decided to get me an electronic drum set. In fourth grade, I made my debut at the school talent show playing "Manic Monday" by The Bangles. Since then, I have been a part of many bands and drum lines ranging from Georgia Tech to the Atlanta Falcons drum line. I have also performed with groups such as Odyssey Percussion Theatre, an independent indoor drum line, and Spirit from JSU, a division I drum corps. At Tech, this will be my third year on the drum line and I will play bass drum.
Georgia Tech: I chose Georgia Tech because it is where I have always wanted to go. My family has held season tickets since I was little, and when I decided that I wanted to be an architect, my father, an alumnus of the School of Mechanical Engineering, gave me a tour of the building that I would "one day sleep in."
I was first drawn to architecture because of my love for little things like models, but I have found a deeper appreciation because of the way that a building really can affect a person's entire experience. I recently acquired my LEED accreditation and hope to use this to decrease the waste that is typically associated with construction.
PSA Filming Experience: I am incredibly thankful that the PSA team selected me. The crew was so talented and fun to work with! Having no experience in acting made some of what I was asked to do challenging, but Brooke [Novak, marketing communication manager] gave me great examples of showing emotion, and Fletcher [Moore, senior web developer] even helped me to smile by dancing around and making funny faces. The work environment was a blast, and by the end of the day, almost everyone had learned to twirl a drumstick!
