The Tech campus is an exciting and dynamic place to live and learn. Cutting-edge research in brand new facilities, nationally acclaimed athletic teams, and a rich and varied campus life all contribute to Tech's appeal. The following questions and answers will give you a head start on navigating the Georgia Tech system.

How can I keep up with what's happening at Tech and/or participate in the life of the university?

Will all of my student's scholarships and financial aid be automatically renewed?
Not necessarily. In addition to reapplying by May 1, maintaining certain grades, and/or remaining in a specific major, some scholarships and aid are contingent on your financial status. If any of these circumstances have changed or you/your student missed the May 1 deadline, students may no longer be qualified to receive certain funds at the same level as in previous years.
What do parents need to know about housing at Tech?
The Department of Housing understands the pride, questions, joy, and anxiety parents feel at leaving their sons and daughters at college. We've been administering the student housing process for many years, so we are well versed in the topics most concern you. Visit www.housing.gatech.edu/parents for information designed specifically for you.
If my student makes the Dean's List, how do I get an announcement in my local newspaper?
Each semester the Registrar's Office sends out an e-mail request to students asking them if Georgia Tech can release information about their Dean's List or Faculty Honors status to the media. We must receive permission from the student, not the parent, for each individual semester (see FERPA regulations at www.registrar.gatech.edu/students/ferpa.php). Georgia Tech contracts with a private service to send news releases to the newspaper that is served by the student's local ZIP code. Newspapers are not obligated to print the information.
What are Progress Report grades?
Progress Report grades of S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory) are assigned for all students enrolled in 1000- and 2000-level classes. The grades are designed to help newer students correct any problems they may be having early in the semester. For more information, visit www.undergradstudies.gatech.edu/supportMidterm.htm.
