Honoring the Service of Our Military Veterans
November 12, 2012
Each year, the United States commemorates the service of its active and retired military service personnel. At Georgia Tech, there are more than 300 members of faculty and staff who have worn the uniform in service and defense of our great nation. Another 200 young military service men and women are currently enrolled as Tech students. Today, we pause to thank all of these veterans for their service and unwavering commitment to preserving peace and stability around the globe.
In their honor, we will mark Veterans Day at 11:11 a.m. today using the campus steam whistle. This timing coincides with the date of the armistice that ended World War I. I hope each of you will take a moment to reflect on this solemn tribute, and help us recognize and honor the many members of our campus community who have served or continue to serve in our armed forces.
To each generation of veterans, we owe a debt of gratitude. On this Veterans Day, we recognize our Georgia Tech veterans, value their service, and thank them for the contributions and sacrifices they have made in support of all of us here at Georgia Tech and around the country.
Thank you.
G. P. "Bud" Peterson
