Frequently Asked Questions

What graduate programs are offered at Georgia Tech?
To view a full listing of graduate degree programs offered at Tech, go to www.gradadmiss.gatech.edu/programs.
Why should I apply for a national fellowship?
It takes a lot of time to put together a fellowship package; why should you bother? First, it’s an excellent way to fund your education; second, it’s an achievement that will help you professionally; and third, it’s a good way to get experience writing proposals to fund your research (a required skill). The essays you’ll write for your fellowship applications will help you think more extensively about your study and research goals and you’ll begin graduate school more prepared. Even if you have an assistantship or expect one, consider competing for national fellowships.
Where do I get applications and information about national fellowships?
You can get applications for most major national fellowships in the Graduate Co-op and Fellowship Office in Room 120 of the Savant Building on the Tech campus. You can also get more information on graduate fellowships, summer research fellowships (graduate and undergraduate), and post-doctoral fellowships. Visit www.fellowships.gatech.edu for more information.
When should I apply for fellowships?
You should apply either during your senior year as an undergraduate or in the fall of your first year as a graduate student.
Where can I get writing assistance and advice about applying for fellowships?
In addition to writing assistance offered in the Graduate Studies Office, the School of Mechanical Engineering has a professional writing program coordinated by Dr. Jeffrey Donnell. He also gives workshops and provides individual writing assistance. Dr. Donnell also offers a free lecture course every semester called The Little Red Schoolhouse. This course focuses on specific writing problems of interest to graduate students (or faculty or staff).
How can I get a copy of the General Academic Catalog?
You can view the catalog online at www.catalog.gatech.edu.
Where can graduate assistants get help with enhancing their teaching skills?
Georgia Tech’s Center for Teaching and Learning has a series of programs during the year to help graduate students become more effective teachers.
