Public Service, Leadership, and Policy
Addressing the complex challenges facing many areas of society today requires more than just the application of science and technology. To address key issues of policy, service, and leadership, Georgia Tech faculty and students are studying a broad range of crosscutting science, technology, and innovation disciplines. By addressing these policy considerations in the development of broad-based technological solutions, Georgia Tech provides an integrated approach to addressing many of today’s most difficult problems.
Examples of Georgia Tech policy research include information and communications policy, human resource issues related to the role of women and minorities in science, the role of state government in science and technology policy, issues of disabilities and technology, privacy and security, technology policy assessment, international innovation policy, economic development, environmental and energy policy, philosophy and ethics, technology and national security, social and urban policy, and public management and administration.
Policy@Tech is a consortium of Georgia Tech’s policy
research centers, with faculty and administrators who
have significant government policy experience. The
consortium shapes national policy discussions on critical
global challenges and facilitates faculty/student

Georgia Tech’s policy research actively encourages both faculty members and students in the science and engineering units to share their research and collaborate on specific societal challenges such as STEM education, advanced manufacturing, and health information technology. The long-term goal of researchers at Georgia Tech is to influence policy at local, state, national, and international levels by facilitating research-based dialogue.
Public service, ethics, and leadership are also academic priorities for Georgia Tech students. As part of their academic development, students are invited to channel their educational experiences into public service and leadership activities.
