The nomination process for 2013 has closed.  When the next invitation for nominations is released, this page will reflect the relevant updates.  For planning purposes, EVPR office instructions to the campus from the last solicitation appear below:

Georgia Tech has been invited to submit up to two nominations for the Ellison Foundation New Scholar Awards in Aging, which provide the recipients with up to $100,000 per year in research funds for up to  four years.  In the words of the foundation, the objective of these awards is to "support new investigators of outstanding promise in the basic biological sciences relevant to understanding lifespan development processes and age-related diseases and disabilities."  Please note the following limitations on eligibility:

These awards are intended for investigators who are in the first three (3) years of their research
careers following their post-doctoral fellowship experience. For the 2013 competition, nominees
must hold regular full time appointments (tenure or non-tenure) on the faculty of the sponsoring
institution by March 1, 2013; and they must have been in such an appointment, whether at the
sponsoring institution or other institution(s), for no more than three years as of July 15, 2013, i.e.
the first appointment having been made no earlier than July 15, 2010. Time spent in clinical
internships, post-doctoral training, residencies, or in work toward board certification does not
count as part of the three-year limit.
Attached please find a detailed call for nominations with additional information on eligibility requirements.
Because there is a limit on the number of submissions, the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research, in conjunction with Foundation Relations, will review preliminary materials from any interested applicants.  Please ask anyone who would like to apply to send the following to Gail Spatt (spatt@gatech.edu) by Friday, January 18:
  • 2-page CV
  • 1-2 page description of proposed research project
  • Budget with the inclusion of 8% overhead
Please forward this on to anyone who might be eligible.  All questions should be directed to Gail Spatt (404.385.8334 or spatt@gatech.edu).

Special thanks to Susan Thomas for identifying this opportunity and to Birgit Burton for securing an invitation from the foundation.
