NIH has issued a solicitation for a Shared Instrumentation Grant Program, specific to biomedical research, that seems like an excellent opportunity for Georgia Tech.  Here is a brief description of the purpose:

The ORIP Shared Instrument Grant (SIG) program encourages applications from groups of NIH-supported investigators to purchase or upgrade a single item of expensive, specialized, commercially available instrumentation or an integrated system that costs at least $100,000. The maximum award is $600,000. Types of instruments supported include, but are not limited to, confocal and electron microscopes, biomedical imagers, mass spectrometers, DNA sequencers, biosensors, cell-sorters, X-ray diffraction systems, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectrometers among others.

While there is no limit to the number of proposals that Georgia Tech can submit, we do need to be mindful of any duplications or similarities in our requests.  Therefore, please inform me via email (spatt@gatech.edu) if you are planning to submit a proposal.  All I need is the title of the proposal, the contact PI and a short (2-3 sentences) description of the item(s) you are requesting.  Should I need additional information, I'll contact you.
