ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE (EDI)
New Location Offers New Opportunities
Technology Square is the new headquarters of the Economic Development Institute (EDI).
It's a location that will raise the profile of Georgia Tech's statewide economic development efforts
and increase synergies with partner organizations.
"Being located at Technology Square presents a myriad of new opportunities."
Rick Duke
Director, EDI
One of Georgia Tech's most active outreach groups, EDI provides technology-driven
solutions to help Georgia companies become more competitive and to help the state's communities
address economic growth issues. Last year, some 1,300 companies were provided with strategic
management and technical assistance. Since 2000, EDI has provided economic development assistance
in 153 of the state's 159 counties. In addition to its Atlanta headquarters, EDI has seventeen
regional offices throughout the state.
Through EDI, Georgia Tech provides a comprehensive set of services designed to
help companies become more productive and competitive in world markets. The Economic Development
Institute advises on issues including quality and international standards, energy and environmental
management, lean enterprise transformation, information technology, government contracting, trade
adjustment assistance, and marketing and new product development.
The new EDI headquarters at 760 Spring Street reinforces Technology Square's role
as a major link between the Georgia Tech campus and Midtown community because it plays a role as a
gateway into the university's resources. This location makes EDI part of a thriving Midtown
neighborhood that includes BellSouth, EarthLink, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Technology
Square also is home to key Georgia Tech partners, including:
- The Advanced Technology Development Center, Georgia Tech's incubator for technology start-ups
and EDI's sister organization, located in Centergy One at Technology Square.
- The Global Learning and Conference Center, a technologically advanced learning facility devoted to corporate
meetings, training programs, and other forms of continuing education.
- The Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development, a research center that studies Atlanta
as a living laboratory for mixed-used development and other growth issues.
- The new Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center, a convenient place for out-of-town visitors
to stay and to hold meetings.
