INTRODUCING THE GVU CENTER AT GEORGIA TECH
The GVU Center is headquartered in the Technology Square Research Building, located on Fifth Street
at the edge of the Georgia Tech campus in Midtown Atlanta.
The GVU Center at Georgia Tech is an interdisciplinary research facility affiliated with the College
of Computing at Georgia Tech. The research center addresses a host of issues, each dedicated to unlocking human
potential through technological innovation. Computer technology is becoming as fundamental to society as electricity
and the automobile. Our work has a global impact in that it centers on innovating technologies that support basic
human needs. We strive to continuously push boundaries, thus bridging the gap between ideas and reality.
Interdisciplinary Structure is Key
The GVU Center's education programs and research projects are conducted by Georgia Tech faculty drawn
from each of Tech's six colleges: Computing, Engineering, Management, Sciences, Architecture and the Ivan Allen College
of Liberal Arts. Likewise, our students represent all walks of life, all academic interests and career ambitions.
At the GVU Center, "interdisciplinary" is not simply a trendy buzzword, it is essential to what we do
and more important, how we do it.
At the GVU Center, interdisciplinary means:
• Bringing talented people together to solve problems.
• Seeding new ideas from the ground up, not from the top down.
• Fostering collaboration through shared facilities, discussions and programs.
• Providing a compelling vision for our common goals and objectives.
Following a Problem-Oriented Philosophy
Our approach to research is consistent with our mission of unlocking human potential through
technological innovation. We are singularly dedicated to solving problems of every kind that impact the human condition.
That means we are results-driven, practical and cognizant of how our work can be applied in a real-world context.
