May 8, 2011 — As part of an ongoing effort to foster innovation and entrepreneurship within its campus community, the Georgia Institute of Technology has announced the creation of three new programs that will complement several well-established initiatives. 

April 10, 2011 — To leverage existing research expertise and resources in support of strategic Institute initiatives, Executive Vice President for Research Stephen Cross has announced the formation of the Institute for Electronics and Nanotechnology (IEN). The new interdisciplinary research institute consolidates multiple electronics and nanotechnology research centers and related programs into an organization designed to enhance support for rapidly growing programs spanning biomedicine, materials, electronics and nanotechnology.

February 1, 2011 — To support the strategic plan’s focus on faculty-led, interdisciplinary and transformative research, Executive Vice President for Research Steve Cross has announced the launch of the Institute for People and Technology (IPaT). 

January 6, 2011 — With the renewed emphasis on global engagement articulated in Georgia Tech’s new strategic plan, Institute leadership has formed an advisory group that will provide additional focus in forging future international partnerships.

December 16, 2010 — The Georgia Institute of Technology has announced the creation of the Center for 21st Century Universities, to be directed by former Georgia Tech College of Computing Dean Rich DeMillo. Source: Office of Communications

September 21, 2010 —  A new partnership between the Woodruff Arts Center and the Georgia Institute of Technology will give Tech students unlimited access to the arts in Atlanta at a deeply discounted rate.  By purchasing a season pass for just $20, Tech students will have access to all exhibitions at the High Museum of Art and all performances of the Alliance Theatre and Atlanta Symphony through May 31, 2011.

February 5, 2012 — From a 3-D drawing experience that incorporates artificial intelligence to a competition that features cutting-edge musical instruments such as a partially edible toy piano, there will be something for every arts lover on campus the week of Feb. 13.

February 17, 2013 — When it was released in August 2010, Georgia Tech’s Strategic Plan was a seedling that was just taking root. Building upon institutional strengths, it was intended to provide a structure for the next stage of Tech’s ascendancy as a global research university.

July 20, 2012 — Clayton County leaders have begun development of a new strategic plan intended to guide the county’s economic development efforts during the years ahead. This eight-step planning process, which kicked off with a community forum July 19 at Clayton State University, is being facilitated by economic development specialists from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

June 17, 2012 — Professor Tim Lieuwen will become executive director of Georgia Tech's Strategic Energy Institute, where he expects to be a "systems integrator" bringing together the many elements of Georgia Tech science, engineering, computing and policy research to address the planet's most pressing energy challenges.

November 12, 2012 — With a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Georgia Institute of Technology will develop three massive open online courses (MOOCs) targeted at those who have yet to pursue or complete a college degree.

March 18, 2013 — At the end of the spring 2012 semester, the Strategic Plan Implementation Steering Committee (SPISC) concluded the successful effort of shepherding the work of 16 task forces developing initiatives for elements of Georgia Tech’s strategic plan. A report summarizing selected activities where the Office of the Provost is heavily involved or taking a lead is now available.
