Seminar Title: Discovering Your Purpose in the Tech Industry

Abstract: Kendrick Treadwell discovered his talent for planning and organizing as a student at Georgia Tech. He sought to create a career capitalizing on this skill in the tech industry in alignment with his purpose, an ongoing exercise of self-reflection and practical experience. In this seminar, Kendrick will share his journey from an electrical engineering student to a successful program manager at Google, while making a real-world impact and developing leadership skills as a driver of diversity and inclusion initiatives at the company.

Biographical Sketch of the Speaker:
As one of nine alumni featured in the Georgia Tech College of Engineering’s 2020 Helluva Engineer magazine article “The Rising Stars of Engineering,” Kendrick Treadwell is an ECE alumnus and a program manager who has over a decade of experience in the tech industry. Currently employed at Google, Kendrick drives strategic and operational excellence for an in-house production studio at Google that creates content and experiences (e.g., YouTube videos, social media content, and global conferences) to educate and inspire software developers in partnership with Google’s product areas (e.g., Android, Google Chrome, etc.).

In addition to his core role, Kendrick currently leads several initiatives that are part of Google’s Tech Equity Collective, a program designed to accelerate Black representation in the tech industry and create holistic pathways for current and aspiring Black tech innovators. Between 2016 and 2020, Kendrick also volunteered as co-lead of the Atlanta chapter of the Black Googler Network (BGN), one of Google’s employee resource groups supporting underrepresented employees, their allies, and the external communities Google serves.

Kendrick has been employed at Google since 2015 and works out of the Atlanta office. Prior to his current role, he worked as a program manager for Google Fiber from 2015 - 2018 helping launch and operate the Google Fiber networks in Atlanta and Huntsville. He also worked as a program manager for Google Cloud from 2018 - 2020. Prior to Google, Kendrick worked at AT&T as a project manager in its Network Operations organization from 2012 - 2015. He interned at Microsoft in 2008 and graduated from Georgia Tech in 2010 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He earned a M.S. in Management from Wake Forest University in 2011. Kendrick became Project Management Professional (PMP) certified in 2016.
