Ski and Snowboard Trip to Sugar Mountain

Sugar Mountain Trip Information

March 10-12th, 2023

Register by filling out this form and paying Mark in full.

Where and When:  

  • Sugar Mountain, NC (~4 and  1/2 hrs drive)
  • March 10-12, 2023. Includes One-Day Lift Ticket for Saturday, March 11th and lodging Friday and Saturday nights.

Lodging:  

  • We are staying at The Pineola.  There will be two full beds and four people in each room. 
  • After registration closes, a spreadsheet will be sent out for everyone to select their rooms.
  • Check in: Anytime after 4:00 PM Friday (March 10th)
  • Check Out: 10:00 AM Sunday (March 12th)

Costs: 

  • $150 Base Price
    • This includes one full-day lift ticket (9am-5pm on Saturday).
    • This includes lodging at the Pineola Hotel on the nights of 3/10 and 3/11.  Checkout is at 10am on Sunday, 3/12.
  • There are also options to pay for just lodging ($95) or just tickets ($60).

Payment Information:  

  • Full payment to Mark Glinberg (Venmo: @Mark-Glinberg) is needed ASAP to finish registration (you will NOT have a secured spot until this is paid.)
    • Send Mark the full cost of the package you want (i.e. $150 for lodging and ticket) and include your full name, gatech email, and “Sugar 10-3-2023” in the payment description.
    • The last 4 digits of his phone number are 9968 (for Venmo verification).
    • If given options, please do NOT consider this transaction to be goods/services.  
  • Registration deadline is February 28th, 6:00 PM.
  • You can cancel for a full refund up until the registration deadline (February 28th, 6:00 PM).  After this deadline, you are locked in (no refund).
  • Dues-paying members can expect to receive reimbursements (whatever money we have leftover) in the weeks post-trip.
  • To complete registration, you must complete this form and pay Mark in full.

Transportation:

  • Carpooling will be organized after registration closes.
  • Travel times will be managed by each group.
  • For Drivers: We will refund up to $100 in gas reimbursements for cars with 4+ people in them. Scan and keep your gas receipts; we will send out a form for this information to be uploaded to.

Registration Information:

  • Anyone is welcome to register for this trip, including alumni, friends, and non-GT students!
  • In the event that we have more people sign up than spots available, dues-paying members will get first priority and overflow will be put on a waitlist.
  • All skill levels are welcome; beginners are particularly encouraged!
  • To complete registration, you must complete this form and pay Mark in full.

Rentals/Extras:

  • We are working to put together a group order for rentals at Highland House Ski Rentals.  If you would like rentals through the club, please reflect that in your sign up form.  We will release more details on this after registration closes.
  •  If you want to acquire your own rentals, here’s some places to start looking at:
    • Highland House Ski Rentals
      • Should reserve in advance
      • Can pick up between 7-11pm night before if requested
      • Can give equipment back that night or up to 10am next day
      • $24 for ski rentals (skis, boots, and poles)
      • $39 for snowboard (board and boots)
      • +$10 for bibs/snowpants 
      • +$10 for coats (can probably get away with just bringing a raincoat and sweatshirt)
      • +$8 for helmet

  • Lessons at Sugar
    • Sugar Mountain offers 1 hrs group ski/snowboard lessons from 9am - 3pm every hour.  All skill levels welcome, pricing listed at $31.

Important:

  • Skiing is a dangerous sport. We strongly advise everyone to wear helmets regardless of skill level. Follow these rules while you’re out there:
    • Always stay in control.
    • People ahead of you always have the right of way.
    • Do not ski with people above your level; they will most likely take you to terrain you are not ready for.
    • If an emergency occurs, contact one of our Safety Officers, Ski Patrol, and/or 911 depending on the severity of the emergency.
