Srinivas Peeta is director of the Autonomous and Connected Transportation Lab and the Frederick R. Dickerson Chair and Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Peeta’s research interests are multidisciplinary and span several domains related to transportation and infrastructure systems and the role of emerging technologies.
Peeta studies how people, vehicles, and transportation infrastructure can work together to make travel safer, faster, and more efficient. His research helps cities prepare for the future of transportation, including autonomous vehicles, connected cars, electric vehicles, ride-sharing services, and smart traffic systems. He uses data, artificial intelligence, computer modeling, and behavioral science to understand how people make travel decisions and how transportation networks respond to congestion, accidents, and new technologies. His goal is to improve how people and goods move through communities while reducing traffic, increasing safety, and creating more sustainable transportation systems.
His research focuses on the development of advanced optimization and control methods, AI/ML techniques, econometric and behavioral approaches, driving simulator-based environments, and system-of-systems paradigms for complex transportation systems. His research also explores the roles of autonomy, automation, connectivity, electrification, shared mobility, and information and communication systems for the movement of people and freight.
